Processional
|
 |
This photo was taken during a walk south from the main
Avebury ring. A double row of nearly 100 stones made the
Avebury Avenue, a processional that connected the main
ring with a smaller ring known now as the Snakes
Head or the Sanctuary. Because Jeff and I arrived at Avebury
by car and drove right to the center of the formation,
we didnt have the full experience of walking from
the Sanctuary to the main ring. Were I to keep following
this trail, I would end up quite near the amazing ancient
monuments of West Kennet Longbarrow and Silbury Hill,
two places that I foolishly neglected to photograph on
this visit.
